Stumbling around in ignorance here. My first taste of Turkey's first stamps. I am guessing Scott 6 25 paras Black on yellow, surface printed. 1863 It is badly damaged (but welcome in my collection) Looks on piece, but I think glued on in a amateur repair attempt. Welcome any comments, input. |

Turkey in Asia Sc#87 Mosque at Urfa Study. 100 Piastres Violet CV $75 - $5 Top 2 have orig gum, lightly hinged (looks like evidence gum toning) Bottom 2 are used and soaked by prev owners. Note Colour change from Red-violet to Violet I have toggled the top 2, and believe both are genuine, but look at the Crescents in the top corners, you would swear by the look of these 1 would be a forgery. I think a print ink problem at the time. |

1884 "Crescent" Set Unmentioned in Scott. The Sc#68 20 paras, comes in 2 paper types, thick and thin. This may be linked to the differing Perforations 11˝ and 13˝ This paper types may occur in other values. The Thick Paper appears yellowed, and the printing is less crisp giving the viewer the assumption the stamp has been over-soaked. I have yet to find a mint Thick Paper. Postmark. circa 16-17 bar, SALONIQUE (SALONICA) Pmk on Sc#88 1890 (Thanks Nigel) |

"Crescent" types : Constant Flaw. Across all values / years The tiny piece of steel, that forms the right hand leg of the "M" in OTTOMAN has broken away, or worn. Resulting in EMP : OTTONAN ------------------------------------------------------------- FORGERY : Identified by Nigel This, for me, is the "head scratcher" I believe (perhaps as a result of the above) a completely different typeface was used on this issue of 1876 EMP : OTTOMAN in differing typeface. (Sc#55) |

That's a nice clear strike.
The whole postmark says SALONIQUE in a large sideways oval made up of vertical lines.
This is known from the period 1888 to 1901.
