I think we should agree that your ability to ID is significantly better than most. (And certainly better than the seller in this case!)
No, you haven't missed anything. (The wacky bidders are missing something?! Assuming they are real?!) |

Thank you Michael, I still hesitate with the Postage Dues, will I ever conquer them?
Was waiting your reply, I can rest easy, will be away tomorrow.

Hi Rod,
I don't see much value at all here.
There is only one Eastern Roumelia stamp (the blue 1 piastre) and it's one of the late unissued values. It's a common stamp and this one dosn't look very fresh. The green Turkish stamp is in poor condition.
The Turkish postage dues are better but these are two of the more common values. Maybe bidders are hoping that they have a rarer shade/perf stamp here when they see some high prices in the catalogue?

Nigel, thanks for your opinion. It seems, as one becomes au fait with a particular country, it becomes easier and easier to appraise. I had discounted the Eastern Roumelia, and the 10 para Dulos Green, I knew their worth.
The Postage dues looked (as they say) "Fresh" , good colours and clean perforations, I shied at the jump, and thought perhaps I had made a mistake. I am not confident at all with these. I was not bidding, but surprised as the price climbed.
I need to get experienced with the dues, as pages come up for auction, scans are generally poor, and the borders seem to come in all colours. I don't usually bid till I am confident of the material.

Hi Rod,
I'm always cautious in identifying these postage dues but for what it's worth my identification would be:
5 piastres - SG D75A - inscription & border in red-brown, perf 5 to 11.5 irreg. / Scott J29
2 piastres - SG D74B - inscription & border in grey-brown, perf 5 to 11.5 irreg. / Scott J33.

Nigel, Quote: but for what it's worth my identification would be: I think that's what I had also, ( I recall estimating the CV at $12, so at 25% Cat, the lot was worth around $3 ) (to me) Michael has kindly shared his wisdom, and given me permission to broadcast. We are indebted Michael. Nigel, can you offer the SG numbers, so we can all talk the same language please? |

Nigel, very generous of your time, and helpful. We shall put this into the vault, and await my ISFILA catalogue to arrive, then perhaps Michael can update/revise the Database, to accomodate all.
Thank you.

2nd one is a good example of a cut cancel - on piece - showing how the 'cut cancel' was done on the envelope... |

Nice strikes Michael. The piece with the Ankara government stamp and the YABAN ABAD postmark is lovely. |
