GeoffHa,

I believe your Aleppo-to-Dresden postcard translates roughly as follows:

Quote:
In response to your request of 30 December of last year, I must inform you that there is nothing to mark in your article here.

Postmaster - many thanks once more. Although there were a few attractive stamps in this lot, the covers and cards - more of which I've added to Rod's Syria thread - were the most appealing items.
Regards.
Geoff

Michael,
It's close, everything matches up toggling with what I have.

Thoughts:
Colour is a bit dodgy, that may be a scan problem.
Perforations are clipped, I have clear perforations on some of my 1908
but very few.
The Postmark is unclear, as is the opt, very few Typo opts look that vague.

Even collectors on ONEPS advertising to buy these, and as you say, we havn't seen them in our travels, existence still doubtful.

Hard for me to doubt the Opt...toggling shows quite an accuracy.

Buy it, and its a forgery, you're a chump,
Buy it and it genuine, you have endless bragging rights.

QUERY Can we confirm Michel prices this stamp as used
That is very odd......

Here's what would tip me over to avoid the stamp....

There appears to be a faint béhiyé overprint above and to the left of "1331".

If so that would make it Mi 369.

Nice vision there Nigel,
you could be right, making it a B26 CV$1.50
Well done you.

Query, would a UV light expose any chemical alteration?

Hi Rod,

I've never used a UV lamp but that's a good question.

If it has been faked then maybe the postmark has been added to try to fool the eye?

You're right to check the seller's ebay feedback. That wasn't pretty.

Good eyes you guys!

I asked the seller for a better scan. The biggest issue for me - (never thought to check the guy's feedback - yikes!!) - is that the overprint seems to be on top of the cancel. 2nd issue is the 'double' offset o/p on the back (??) along with the goofy dealer mark.

I had looked for the discount o/p for a long time - never thought of looking so high on the stamp - that would also be weird?? (I still can't see it very well - but there is clearly something there...)

Wasn't planning to bid. My conclusion was fake without much hesitation. Glad to have some independent confirmation!!

No reply from the seller. I had looked at some of his items a few days ago - some Sultan Journey overprints - and they looked fake to me, so I didn't bid. (You don't see many fake sultan journey overprints - relatively easy to spot) Seems we have a new seller to put on the 'avoid' list...

That doesn't surprise me Michael.
The vendor has >8,000 sales, he/she knows the routine.
Good luck to the purchaser, I say. Climbing towards $100 Aust
Personally I wouldn't touch it.

It will be good to keep the scan, I don't have a great collection of Octagonal cancels, in my lot, I'll look through my catalogues, see if the size of the hexagon matches known strikes, looks a tad large for mine.

Might I recommend Orhan Pamuk's Istanbul - Memories and the City? It's not a history, but a highly personal and fascinating account of Pamuk's childhood and youth and his relationship to Istanbul. It originally appeared in 2005, and can be picked up for two or three pounds. It was reissued, in a larger format, "De Luxe" edition, with lots of additional photos, in 2017.

Nice you guys!!

I can offer an opinion on the 3rd one - it is a partial/mis-strike of the 'Sivas' overprint??

Nice, Michael,
I'll submit it to ONEPS for a consideration.
