"Seebeck Reprints" ONE OF THE RAREST STAMPS IN THE WORLD?

the website http://2-clicks-stamps.com/article/...-stamps.html

has a stamp from the "Seebeck Reprint"series and claims it to be one of the worlds rarest stamps!

The Ecuador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and El Salvador "Seebeck Reprints" stamps (1889-1899)2-clicks-stamps.com article is suggesting this stamp to have huge value>

Story is Nicholas F. Seebeck, a representative of the Hamilton Banknote Company in New York, contracted to print stamps for these nations at no charge, provided all unsold stamps were invalidated and returned to him.

He sold these rare collectible stamps and other postage stamps reprinted from the original plates to collectors at a fraction of their face value.

Actually, I'll take a punt on the British Guiana 1c magenta at a million dollars. I can fund it by selling my Seebeck issues.

They said the Bluenose is a rare Canadian stamp, that give 0 credibility to this website , at least if they was referring to the "man in the mast" variety of the bluenose

That's a terrible article. He seems to think the 2d blue is an error stamp because it lacks the country name. He speaks of the British Guyana "stamps" in the plural, saying "these stamps were sold at an auction".

You can tell the standard of writing by remarks like "Several counterfeit stamps of the British Guyana stamps resurfaced".

The Seebacks stamp of Nicaragua will never be considered a rare stamp . If my memory is correct these stamps were printed after the contract with the Post Office of Nicaragua had expired . So the printing company just kept printing these stamps .

For that matter, the Penny Black isn't truly "rare" - you can buy a hundred of the things right now if you want.

Those SEEBECK stamps of Nicaragua and Ecuador are found in 2 cent approval books and in mixture boxes . You can find many in old albums from the 1950's thru 1970's , their value can't be more than a few cents apiece ,maybe a long set may command a few dollars at most.

Hi floortrader

Not only Nicaragua but Ecuador, El Salvador and Honduras.

One factor that makes it so difficult to tell fake from real is that the original plates were used to print the stamps.

This website appears to be the product of a well intentioned individual with little philatelic knowledge. Too bad, because this sort of thing can damage the hobby.

With a little research, you can find exactly which stamps from which countries are 'affected'. For the general collector, the best (most reasonable) choice is probably just to go for the reprints and more on.

OMG did you think I meant THIS site? I was referencing the article linked to by the OP. I should have said 'article' not website.

I think I need to not post anything anywhere for awhile. I made an innocent comment earlier on another forum and caught hell for it. Maybe too much caffeine.
