Petert4592, thank you. I am finding the Machins a challange, but that makes it fun.

Gibby01, thanks for the info. I will take a look. If anything it would be a great resource.

Searched my Scott catalogue for the numbers assigned to my Russian stamps. What I like about the Russian stamps is that they are imprinted with the date which makes it easier to find the stamp. A few times I was convinced that the catalogue didn't have a stamp but in reality the stamp was right in front of me all the time. :p
I find it soothing to look up stamps and wonder about the image printed on the stamp is about and etc...

Just over halfway through my count. I'm at 12,061 stamps mounted on Steiner+ pages. Still have 13 binders to go through.

Finished the count of what I have so far on Steiner+ pages in 35 binders. 2917 pages and 21,119 stamps. Not quite all unique because I have some blocks, pairs, and parallel pages (unused and used), but my guess is somewhere around 18,000. This is what I have done since November of 2020 when I purchased the Steiner pages. Going to keep better track as I go from now on.

Started making album pages for Czechoslovakia, printable on Lighthouse album pages:

Planing on using blank stamp mounts. The plan was to set up according to Scott catalogue, but I am considering using Michel instead.

Oh, and also updating my want list online while away from the collection.

Started the migration of all my Air Mails into their new albums, two 3" binders. I finished printing the last few pages a couple days ago so yesterday and today I have been moving them from the old album, stock pages, cards and glassines.

@angore,

Not focused on any particular country. I have a very large world wide collection (through about 1973) that filled (actually overloaded) 14 older Scott International binders. I took all of the Part 1 pages out of the binders (very acidic and in poor shape) and I removed all extra pages and extra stamps in the margins and put those into glassines. The binders now contain only the stamps from 1940+ to about mid-1971. I had also removed the pages when Scott started adding numbers for all countries (around mid-1971). My first goal is to remount the "classic" stamps (1840-1940) on new pages, using Steiner as my base with Scott Classic Catalog (I have a 2019 copy). I have needed to modify many pages and created some of my own for special purposes. I am remounting everything in clear mounts. I print pages as I go and write the Scott numbers into the frames on all pages I print (this helps me verify if the Steiner page is correct). For stamps that are minor varieties, I often print a new page, or if I don't have the major, just use the current frame and then write the variety number underneath the frame. I don't keep track of what is mounted on the pages because the pages follow the Scott catalog. For duplicates of what I already mounted, I write their catalog numbers on strips of 3x5 index cards and store in the glassine with the stamps. I use #4 glassines because they are perfect for the height of an index card and I can get 8 strips from each card. I store up to 10 stamps or so in each glassine. I use non-white index cards for the duplicates. For all other stamps in glassines, I use white index cards. Because Scott Classic includes British Commonwealth through 1951, I am mounting those as well. There are other select countries where a good breaking point is after 1940, due to gaining independence and such. After this initial work, I will start on 1940-1949 because those pages are also very acidic and not in good shape. I often look for countries that have higher value for that decade and also the 1950s and prioritize them ahead of others. I don't know exactly when the Scott pages started to become acceptable, but my guess is that nothing I have in the binders are acid free. The pages starting about 1959 are in decent shape, but still require TLC because they are still often double sided.

Bought 3 boxes of stamps at a garage sale on Friday. After digging most of it out have between 600-800 loose stamps and the rest on paper. Split pretty evenly between US and WW, mostly 1960's to early 90's almost all used. About 1/2 the WW is Polish. Finding a few useful items I need, especially on the WW side. Some pre-cancels on the US side an added bonus. All in all a good deal for $12.

Thanks NicholasC. I use Steiner but add catalog numbers and page numbers using Acrobat Reader using the comment feature before I print them.

How do you keep track of what you have?

@angore, I don't keep track of what I have mounted in the binders, other than what countries (or portions thereof) that are in a binder. If I come across more stamps for a country already mounted, I will identify them (using the white index card method) and then just pull out the binder and look to see if I already have them. If duplicates, then I use the non-white index cards and keep in the glassines with the other duplicates for that country. At some point, far in the future, it might be nice to catalog everything, but it's not important for me. I am not looking to add missing stamps as I have more than enough to keep me busy for likely the rest of my days.
