The "You Might Be a Collector If" threads were popular and fun threads here.

It all started with PHILB back in 2008

Part 1: https://goscf.com/t/1977

Part 2: https://goscf.com/t/2452

Part 3: https://www.stampcommunity.org/topi...PIC_ID=10481

I think we might be able to continue the fun ....

You see this sticker on a car and immediately think of Czeslaw Slania

You see this on a building and immediately think "First Day Cover" rather than "Fire Department Connection"

I read this really silly book about someone who decided to move there for a couple of years. (The Sex Lives of Cannibals: Adrift in the Equatorial Pacific by Maarten Troost.) Their pronunciation was KEER-ih-bas.

I actually do not have a stamp from there to show you. Sorry!

The natives of Kiribati call themselves I-Kiribati which basically means "from Kiribati". They kind of roll the letter "R" like the French, so the pronunciation is almost like Killy-bas.

It was an odd selection for the official name of the country after independence in 1979. The name is just the accented way they pronounce "Gilberts". The traditional name of the country is Tungaru. The story is they decided not to use that name because it sounded too similar to Tuvalu. Their airline however is Air Tungaru. Both countries were of course part of the Gilbert and Ellice Islands Colony up until 1976.

I'll add another pronunciation one:

You may be a stamp collector if... you can properly pronounce Qatar.

You may be a stamp collector if... you meet somebody from Mauritius and ask if she her family has an old trunk of unsorted letters from 1847! (Had to explain to her about the Post Office 1p and 2p).

I can do better. If you wear your Christmas Seals tie to your yearly Stamp Club holiday party. Always gets a laugh!
