Geoff - good to see you out of your hiatus. Interesting background on the intro of the allies stamps. I did not realize those Mariannes were printed in Algerie, I always took for granted it was the other way around with the Algerien Marianne being made in France. Always things to learn, thanks for sharing

Some material from the Petain period. The miniature sheet and other stamps were issued in 1941-42 in support of French fascists who fought with the Germans on the Eastern front. When Leclerc encountered some of them during the drive into Germany in 1945, he had them shot out of hand. The official stamps were printed in 1942.
