The Smithsonian National Postal Museum offers a free downloadable album A Stamp for Every Country [ http://postalmuseum.si.edu/stampgal...-Country.pdf ].

A challenging use for this album is topical collections. A Train stamp for every country, or an airplane stamp, animal stamp, etc.

Good way to use some of those duplicate stamps also...

That is cool. Simple in concept, but trivial to complete. I am going to give it a go. It will be interesting to see how long, if ever, it takes me to complete it.

Nice idea and a topical theme would probably work for most countries that have issued stamps over the last 100 years or so. There are a lot of countries in the album (German States, for example) that only issued a few stamps 100+ years ago, none of which pictured things like animals or trains, etc, so you'd still need to be somewhat flexible.

I've kicked around the idea of doing this album, and I think I'd try to select something highly emblematic of that country, like a flag or a national symbol, a monarch or famous person, etc. Alternately, you could select, say, just the country's first issue. You could have colonial issues all be the same key type and denomination/color if you want. There's definitely a lot of different ways one could approach this album.

One stamp per country is one of my collections, and as topic I have chosen landscapes. The list of countries is based on the Michel-catalogue and sofar has 1037 entries. For my collection I exclude those countries that exclusively use former stamps (of the same or other countries) with overprints, which leaves 725, of which I have about 75%.

For those countries where a landscape is not available, e.g German and Italian States, some local or regional issues, former colonies, post offices abroad, I just take anything.

I prepared the complete list also in English, so if interested drop me a mail.

Klaus
