Hello everyone. I have this 1954 cover which was posted from Cambridge Mass to The Vatican City in 1954. The stamps appear to be canceled by a "fancy" cancel. My question(s): Is this a fancy cancel by the sender. Is it a cancellation by a US post employee, or a cancellation In Vatican City. Thanks for your help. Kind regards, johan.
I do not know if that is a fancy cancel, but I recognize the name Bart J Bok from the days I was an amateur astronomer in the Netherlands. He was born in Hoorn, the Netherlands and was in the 50's the authority on the Milky Way.
Presumably in the US, struck with the edge of a marking to deface the stamps without completely covering the cover in markings. It's not a fancy cancel.
Bok must have been a collector! (it's a nice destination too).
