It's a common reprint. The lack of detail should be a dead give away. Compare it to a certified example and you will see. |

My bad, not reprint rather a remainder of the 1868 issue. The original imperfs were printed on glazed paper. Yours does not appear to have been printed on glazed paper. |

The stamp looks authentic, the deep color a little tarnished ,the design and everything. These stamps had a simple but organized design to them which could be misleading into thinking they are naive .Definetly not the perf stamp trimmed. The authentic perf variety always had perfs crossing the inside frame line on at least two sides. Now it could be a reprint. It would be nice to see the back. |

edw_kim: 1) This stamp is dirty, scratched, and damaged (creases). I bet it's without full gum, which would lower its value (if it has any value) 3 times. 2) Perf12 is correct, it cannot be Scott 22a trimmed (too many frame lines are showing). However, Unificato values a no-gum imperf 10c at €300. Taking into account the condition of this stamp, I wouldn't buy it for $1. Sorry, but this example doesn't impress me in any way — and Philatelic Foundation wouldn't be impressed, either. Don't waste your money on expertizing this one, please. |

99% of these are forgeries (illegal reprints). Collecting them without having specialist literature is probably not a good idea. Get a copy of the book mentioned:
"Roman States Forgeries: The Issue of 1867 - 1868 by Levitsky and Jenkins."

Just for the record that stamp shown above is a 1890 GELLI & TANI REPRINT ,it is in the shade of the first reprint , the second printing is in a darker orange vermillion both of these reprints are also known with perforations .The stamp above is not a 1889 M.J.B.Moens reprint because the two tassels on each side of the hat don't have lines thru them and on Moens the two circles above the value have four dots that are smaller and separate from the center design in the circle ,also on Moens the patterns in the hat are more clearly define . It is also not a 1890 David Cohn reprint because his were a much finer design ,in a paler color than that shown above . |

I thought it was only Usigli that reprinted these stamps with their continuous horizontal lines like the originals... |

Noted. It is perf 13 three sides and the paper is not glazed, but I would call it chalky. It has no gum and it has been hinged. |
