I am sorting recently purchased collection that most likely belonged to German collector. He has one specific note on many stamps that I cannot understand: "Perlen" (or something like that). I have two used stamps pictured here, however there are similar notes on back side of mint stamps also. Direct translation (pearl) is not helping much.
Any idea what it means?
Thanks

You might be able to find specific answers on this forum by using the search function. Around the denomination you can see a ring of "pearls". Counting the pearls you can come up with different amounts ( or different printings ).

The only thing I can think of, is that the collector is referring to tiny white spots or bubbles ("Perlen") from inking problems. I collected this series for a number of years, and these "bubbles" are a common feature. But with these two stamps, this doesn't seem to be the case.

Nice Wyk cancel from the British area of occupation.

Yes - I looked at many stamps with such note and cannot find anything significant. This is strange because many other notes and overall style of collection shows high level of knowledge.
What are the reference materials you are using for cancels of Allied Occupation? This is one big area where Michel Specialized is not helping.
Thanks

I looked in my collection and found one stamp with those spots in the white oval encircling the number. Of the two stamps in the pic, the left one has those spots, the right one doesn't.

Here's a similar one (top stamp) with a row of 3 white dots.

For postwar years of 1945-50, you can find many excellent examples of cancellations in "Postal History Postwar Years of Germany 1945-48" by Dr. H.F. Stich and W. Stich. This is an English language book and a great general reference for the period. For censor markings, there is "Die Postzensur Der Alliierten Im Besetzten Deutschland Nach Dem II. Weltkrieg" by Karl-Heinz Riemer. This is a German language book which is a comprehensive listing (including illustrations) of the censor markings and labels of the occupying countries in Germany.
