Republican (often referred to as 'red') stamps were invalidated by order of the military on 1 August 1937. Except for the Canary isles, there was no requirement to use airmail stamps to pay for the airmail supplement before 5 May 1938. No airmail stamps existed in the Peninsula before that time. When these stamps were valid, there was not even the suggestion to issue airmail stamps.
Consequently, this is a fantasy item. If at all dating to 1937, they are private overprints for which there was no requirement. It, also, has been suggested these were fabricated much later to defraud collectors.
Why Scott decided to list this nonsense is a riddle to me.
