Johan, all of these stamps are in the Scott special catalog with the exception of the one that say "State of New York" on them. Those are state tax stamps, and a completely different catalog would be needed. You can always look all of the above stamps up on ebay or Google them. Ad yes, they certainly are being collected here. The middle Battleship Proprietary stamp is canceled by Od Chemical Company, later a user of a private die proprietary stamp, Scott RS302. Their potion was genuine sanmetto, the 1900 version of Viagra.
The last proprietary stamp has a nice inverted printed cancel, although I suspect that it too is fairly common. These last two stamps I judge to be the most attractive of the whole lot. |

Sanmetto was trademarked in 1905 as
REMEDIES FOR DISEASES OF THE KIDNEYS, BLADDER, URETHRAL CANAL, PROSTATE GLAND, TESTES, MAMMAE, OVARIES, UTERUS, DISEASES OF THE GENITO-URINARY ORGANS, AND ALSO DISEASES OF THE LUNGS, MUCOUS MEMBRANES, AND SKIN, NERVES, AND BLOOD, WHERE THE KIDNEYS, BLADDER, OR ANY OF THE GENITO-URINARY ORGANS ARE AT FAULT |

In 1935 Sanmetto received a condemnation and destruction judgement from the FDA for false advertising claims. Seems like it took a long time. |

Thank you all for your reactions and knowledge. I will look into this material more,simply to learn. First have to find a scott catalogue(might be a bit difficulyt over here). The next Dutch line is one is for peter4522. Het is weer tegen 5 December tijd voor pepernoten en chocoladeletters(knipoog).

Yup, I know about the (un)availability of the Scott in Holland. One reason I gave you two other ways of finding out about these. And I hope you have a 'goede Sinterklaas". In my part of the country pepernoten are hard to find, but UPS is delivering some "Nagelkaas" and some "katjesdrop': today! Equally delicious,

The New York Stock Transfer stamps are listed in the "The State Revenue Catalog" for New York. I have a PDF copy that I found online a few years ago but not sure if was posted legally. If you are interested in collecting these stamps, Kurt Lange sells an album that follows the NY State Catalog for the Stock Transfer stamps. |
