Hi,

I'm new to this. My father passed away a year and a half ago, and he had a collection of stamps that he started when he was a child. The collection has a good bit of German stamps in it. He stationed in Germany while in the Army. It also has stamps from various other countries.

I've never collected stamps, and wonder where would I go to find the best and accurate information and value of these stamps. There are several hundred stamps in the collection and I have no knowledge of any of them.

Any comments or help?

You can look up stamps in this on-line catalogue.

Maybe a stamp club in your area? Where are you located.

Some of the libraries have copies of the main catalogue used in the U.S.

Redwood...thanks for replying. I will try to post some photos. I'm just starting to research this. Right now I am searching the web for German stamp info. And, from what I can tell. I have some stamps that are East, West, and Berlin? stamps... I seem to have some Chinese, Russian, and various other countries.

I'm in the United States, Alabama...

The best thing for you to do is to some pages and this will give us an idea of what you have. Some are only worth pennies while others can have more value. Factors such as condition of the stamp, centering, and condition of the gum all factor into it.

Looks like a very nice collection especially if you are planning to build on to it. There is not a whole lot of resale value there, but I do see some nice items.

I still have many more photos of pages. But I think you guys can get a feel for what I have from what I posted already. Again, if you see something you'd like me to get a better shot of, just let me know...

A nice collection, with a minimal commercial value, as most collectors already have these stamps. But, you might find a gem! Who knows?
