Hey All,
I came across this stamp from North Korea. Is this an original Scott #6 or a reprint. Scott prefaces the North Korean section with general details about reprints, but doesn't give details for this particular issue except some color variations that were given out as gifts and have higher values. I've search through Google. Michael Rogers just has a small bit to say the stamp is scarce and Inter-Asia sold one recently. Not much else. Of course it doesn't help that it's North Korea - lack of information and examples are a hindrance.

Both my Gibbons & Michel note & describe the official reprints that were made of most of the stamps from this era. Michel actually gives them catalogue numbers with the prefix "NA"(Neuauflagen) But neither catalogue mentions a reprint for this issue - 1946 15 Aug First Anniv of Liberation from Japan - implying that no reprints were made, so this could be genuine. Or a forgery, except that neither catalogues mention forgeries & Michel is good at that.

However, the official North Korea Stamp Catalogue lists all reprints available & this one is NOT listed so we have official confirmation that NO official reprints of this issue were made.

Thanks for that information. I haven't seen anything to suggest there are reprints of this issue aside from the more expensive ones given as gifts. I did find a few replicas for sale online, but they are very poorly printed and have copy imprinted on back. I found legit copies that were auctioned off recently by InterAsia. As far as I can tell from that copy and what's on Michael Roger's website my copy is legit. Lucky find I guess. Recent Scott puts the catalog value at $700, but it's not like one can sell it on ebay.
