Sorting out my kangoroo section, and have these questions:
1) any info about this commercial perfin NA - SO.
2) The line from the 2d and the continent, as well as from the T of postage and the continent, is it from a crack in the plate?, and where I can find a site with the plate flows on internet.
3) The line above pence , is it a plate flaw or lack of ink color?

In general, are there any cancels that are sought after?

The grey 2d roo is a recognised plate variety and is described as a scratch. Comes from Lower Plate 2. (2L34). Check watermark as the variety can be in 3 different watermark types. They are all Die 1.

There isn't any comprehensive website on plate varieties that I'm aware of. The ACSC (Australian Commonwealth Specialists Catalogue) is a very good reference but costs about $130 (Australian). The following link may be of some use.

http://predecimal.nf/index.htm

Look in the section titled "The Roo'.

I would not recommend the link given by StevieG for information about Roos. The information about Roos contained on that site bears no resemblance to reality or to the generally accepted and well researched information about these stamps which is available from a number of other sources. A search of the internet will provide a number of sources of information but I would recommend http://stampboards.com as probably the best available online reading for someone looking for general information ( I am surprised that StevieG appears to be not aware of this ). The Stanley Gibbons catalogue for Australia has some good basic information and for anyone who wants to go further then Australian Commonwealth Specialists Catalogue - Kangaroos edition is a must. There are also a number of specialist books on some of the values.

The Kangaroo Issues of Australian Stamps by H Dormer Legge is also worth reading if you can source a copy. I would not however recommend it for detailed knowledge of particular Roo issues.

Codexluminati would learn much more by reading the thread on Stampboards about Kangaroo flaws here http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopi...?f=10&t=4131 where a lot of knowledgeable collectors have contributed over a number of years. There are a number of other threads on individual flaws which would be of interest.

Regards
Frank

I am very aware of Stampboards but let me be Frank with you. I find the site distasteful and would not recommend anyone joining the site and posting there. Granted, there is some useful information if you are prepared to spend time finding it.

If you're happy to post there, good for you.
