Vintage Streetscapes

HoosRec, your card picturing the street scene in Richmond Indiana brought back memories. Thanks for posting it.

In 1992 I was involved in converting the old Decca Records factory into a compact disc manufacturing operation. Of course Richmond was a much different city by then, as a major portion was destroyed by a massive explosion in 1968. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richm...na_explosion At the time I was there the area had been rebuilt and the main street no longer carried cars but had become a pedestrian walkway.

I grew up near Richmond. So did Mom and Dad. Mom worked at Decca after graduating from high school during the war and had a collection of Decca records from those days.

The city was an early victim of the rust belt phenomenon. That Main Street project you mentioned was later restored to carry vehicular traffic once again. I don't know exactly when that happened, but several years ago.

It sounds like there have been a lot of changes in Richmond since I was there. I rather enjoyed the area. Lots of history there. We lived over in Eaton, OH at the time. There is a good book about the area, and the Gennett record Studios in particular called "Jelly Roll, Bix, and Hoagy". Cheers.

Found this earlier this year. Probably in Minneapolis, though could be some other Minnesota town... When you see him you'll know why I love this card....

Most are streets, but a few of these towns only have a road passing thru.

A few more recently acquired streetscape postcards
