I have purchased a few San Marino covers and on one of these covers I have a few questions.

1) The stamps on the letter are from an 1946 airmail series which eventually had 11 values. In August of 1946 9 values were issued 2 of the values later. My question is: Can you call this series cover ? For september 1946 these were the stamps available from this series so you can say yes. But do the 2 later values make it an incomplete series and is only a cover with 11 stamps a series cover? Your thoughts please.

2) Your thoughts on San Marino and other countries having Airmail stamps. If they do not have an airfield, although in the case of San marino nearby Rimini does.

Johan, I believe it is a true series cover. I can not tell if it is an FDC? It would be nice if you could find a companian cover with all eleven stamps on it, just for curiosity sake.
Airmail in a country without an airport? Does not make a difference in my opinion. Mail went from San Marino to the nearest airport. After all, there is no airport in the town were I live - when I mail a letter to my relatives in the Netherlands it travels from my town to the nearest airport by regular mail also!

It is not a First Day Cover for the first 9 stamps, but it is a cover with as many of the series that had been issued when it was mailed on September 10. One could argue either way, but since it is not an FDC I would think that many collectors would say it is an incomplete set since it does not have the two later denominations.

As for Air Mail in a place that has no airport, I agree with Peter that this does not matter since it was taken to the nearest airport where San Marino placed their air mail in the international air mail stream and it was given air mail service from there.
