Hello everyone!
I'm completely new at this, so I need some help. I've been searching online (because I do not have any catalogues) and can't seem to find them/do not know how to find them.
I'm just curious why it doesn't say ''20 000 000 M'' on the first one, and do you know any story behind second one, I have only found on one website and I don't understand that language.
Thank you very much

The top one represents a very bad time in Germany, with hyperinflation so uncontrolled that stamps cost millions of Marks. This was in the 1920s, and was one of the underlying causes of the rise of fascism, Hitler, and the world carnage that followed. Stamps tell a story to those who study them.

Hi Molly, and welcome to the forum. The second stamp is from the German Occupation of Romania during 1917 and 1918.

Hi Molly,

The first stamp was issued in Germany in December 1923 when a new "gold" currency was introduced to end the inflation that rdavid mentioned.

This stamp has a face value of 20 pfennigs.

They are not rare, in fact, they are pretty common, particularly the first one. They were printed by the millions and they were saved in large numbers, but they still tell an interesting story, as has been mentioned.

Mplly, you might want to check your local public library. Many will have copies of the Scott catalog, which you could use without having to pay the very high cost of a new one. Often the most recent edition is only available for use in the library, but there may be older editions that patrons are allowed to check out and take home.
