Hello,
I don't have the case here yet, but I like to know it already now :). If you want a certification for a stamp, you have to send it to such an organization. I have heard about PF and PSE.
1) Are there other to recommend, and would you send to PF or PSE? (concerning reputation) 2) Aren't you afraid that the stamps are lost or damaged? I know you can make an insurance, but how can you (or the insurance) know before how much the content is worth if the certification is not made yet? Do you just say "10.000 dollar stamps inside"? 3) Any experience about foreign countries? I would send from Europe, so is there something similar in England, e.g., or is there only certification possible in the US?
(my stamps are all older ones)
Just to know better if certification is almost possible.

There are certifiers in Germany. All you have to do is check with either a stamp dealer or with a stamp club.

I'm sure that the RPSL will provide an expert service for you, but, if you're sending US stamps abroad anyway, the US would be the natural choice (although Germany to England is probably a more reliable postal service!) http://www.rpsl.limited/Home.aspx |

For expertizers in Germany, check out the Bund Philatelistischer Prüfer https://www.bpp.de/They don't seem to have any that handle US stamps, but they are the golden standard for German area stamps and do have experts for some other areas. |

Thank you both. The link to the RPSL is useful. In the BPP there are no US certifiers as you say, and so they don't make certifications.
But anyway, my question wasn't where I can certify in Germany, but what about sending. How does it work with the insurance if you don't know the value? And do you recommend PF or PSE or another? |

GeoffHa Quote: the US would be the natural choice (although Germany to England is probably a more reliable postal service!) In 2006 I started collecting after a hiatus of more than 20 years. Only once I never received my stamps since then and I order from many countries around the world. Mail service is surely safe between the USA and almost all the countries in Europe. You ever heard of the Universal Postal Union... Daniel |

Scan the patients and post on this forum. Members here can give you a very good idea if certification is even warranted.
Catalogue price or auction results can help determine value. We can provide Scott catalogue pricing info.
What stamp will help determine which expert certificate is best.
Insured stamps are sent all over the world all the time.

My reference to the reliability of the postal service for delivery of expensive items to the US picked up a number of complaints here about valuable items disappearing in the US Customs system. |

How does it work to send stamps with insurance if you don't know yet the value as it is not certified yet? |

Catalogue price. If not priced in catalogue then auction results.
If you are wrong with your initial assessment then you absorb the higher cost of insurance.
You take your chances.
If you find the big one scan/ask here first if certification is worth the cost. |
