Can anybody tell me why this ebay item could possibly be worth $2,200? Looks like a $1 bargain bin item to me.

Well... I think it's a flawed copy of P1a - used worth $75
as opposed to P1 which is worth $3
It has a 1¢ stamp added and the postmark seems to be between 07/01/1873 and 12/31/1874 and sent to the USA.

But not worth $2200 !

When peoples will learn to run away when the description say "rare" "vintage" and especially "very rare" ?

It looks like P1a but it is torn and very dirty and UGLY !. I would not pay more than $10 for it and that would be a stretch.

I totally agree with Area66's comments re "RARE" "VINTAGE" etc. etc

This person apparently believes that every rare stamp has made its way into his hands. These listings have been up for months and months. Gee, do ya think that a buyer might want a cert on a stamp before dropping six figures?

The depth of ebay's apathy and greed cannot be over estimated. They work so hard trying to convince buyers to have confidence yet they do absolutely zero vetting of accounts, allow people to have 40-50 accounts at once, allow accounts to be sold and exchanged, and unleash listings like illustrated in this thread on buyers.

Here's an idea... rather than developing and implementing a meaningless, ineffective rating system they instead spend the resources to improve the vetting of all accounts and a bit of oversight?**
Don

**Answer: They don't have to, what they have works because buyers are willing to buy things sight unseen from sellers they do not know and are not willing to do any discovery on.

In my experience, EVERY time the word VINTAGE is used in an ebay stamp description, the item is VASTLY overpriced.

When I saw the subject line, "A very expensive ebay item", I thought it might be about Tom Brady's missing jersey. Go Pats.

And sadly, this is one area that stamp books/catalogues derive the price of stamps from..

That's hysterical. Nothing suspicious there either, only the majority of bidders with 100% activity with the seller, other than that...seems legit.

The "could be worse" link is priceless. If you don't like this seller's cheeto, just look at the "more like this" feature. You can purchase a Harambe cheeto in your price range. Or, you could assemble a collection of them.
