When these were issued in 1967 all Canadian stamps
were printed either monochrome recess or for the last few years
bi-coloured recess except for a few combined
with offset/litho.(Provincial coats of arms & flowers,World Peace)
The Post Office Department at that time had only
one security printer Canadian Bank Note Co.
Therefore it would have been almost impossible
to have these printed in multicolour with the
presses CBNC had at that time.
Things of course changed within a year when British American Bank Note
started printing stamps for the Post Office with their new web fed
Goebel press which was capable of printing up to 3 colour (inks stations) and 4 colours (cylinders) photogravure.
And by 1968 CBNC also bought a new offset/litho press capable
of multicolour printing.
But even if these presses were available in 1967 the Centennials
would not have been printed in multicolour offset or photo since the Post Office required that regular/definitives had to be printed via
recess engraving to prevent forgery.

I agree with you Gilles le timbre, it was fun collecting
the Centennials.
So many different plate numbers , tagging, paper etc which
was constantly issued over the years.
Probably my favourite years in stamp collecting, always
something new to order from the Philatelic Service and
all in all it wasn't that expensive compared to the stuff
issued now.

I also remember that in order to get plate blocks at the time, we needed to purchase 10 of the lower values.....per corner block

Actually for the 1c, 2c and 3c you had to buy 20.

Jogil: Shouldn't they have printed the whole picture instead of cropping it since cutting off the real picture can diminish a work of art?

Remember what they did to the Kurelek paintings:

Missed the whole point: the vastness of the Canadian reality.

I found the biggest and best book on this issue "Centennial Definitive Series 1967-1973" by D. Robin Harris with 438 pages for only $30.00 CDN at https://www.garylyon.com/c-23-catalogues.aspx which I bought even though I don't collect this issue but I wanted to get informed about it since it is its 50th anniversary and Canada's 150th anniversary.
