Was looking through some approval material and came across this nice little addition to the collection. I have checked it as best I can, and believe it is an original copy.

I present Samoa # 6 Mint:

According to Scott's catalog on that country. A # 6 does not have a Type 3 problem. It is listed at a Type 2, which states line above the "X" is usually broken and there is a small dot near the upper right of the M serif. As near as I can see there is, under magnification, but it is a light colored stamp so I could be wrong. So, as near as I can determine it is genuine. Besides price was right, and even if it was or is a problem child, I will not be out much....Dealer is a reputable sort.

I think a scan close-up of the "M" area of SAMOA (600 or 1200) would be helpful.

A yellow stamp is particularly difficult to evaluate without a careful examination.

You may indeed be lucky and have a Type II, but the very common "Type IV" reprints need to ruled out.

Here is scan area. Converted it for clarity. Is it real or is it not?

"Scott 6" 1sh orange yellow Express Reprint

Here is a close-up of the "Type IV" reprint.

Upper right serif of "M" bends down, as does your example. That concerns me, as Type II is not described with that serif characteristic.

I also think the retouch on the line above the "X" on your stamp is also consistent with Type IV reprint.

On the other hand, I don't see an obvious "dot" on the curved line below the center of the "M" with your example, which is diagnostic of Type IV.
