While perusing Michel's website the other day, I noticed that a new German-language edition of Michel's Zeppelin- und Flugpost-Spezial Katalog will be available as of May 11, 2017 for 89 Euros. This catalog was last published in 2003.
I am interested to see how much they adjust their valuations. In my experience, the market values of most Zeppelin covers run about 30% to 50% of catalog value.
Thanks for the heads up. I would imagine they will increase the prices on most everything since that is what most catalogs do. Like other catalogs, it is in the company's own interest to keep raising prices, and like other catalogs the real world selling prices will always be some percentage of catalog values for the average real sales prices.
According to Michel website, scheduled release date is now September 8.
I was recently speaking to a German aerophilatelist/dealer who was familiar with the project to update the catalog. He told me that the delay was due to the issue of establishing appropriate listing values. It seems that the majority of the people who are undertaking this project realize that the existing Michel/Sieger catalog prices are extremely overinflated -- particularly for the popular flights (i.e., 1929 Weltrundfahrt, 1930 Sudamerikafahrt, 1931 Polarfahrt and 1933 Century of Progress Flight to name a few).
It will be interesting to see where they end up and what effect, if any, it will have on retail prices.
