I have my father's collection from the 1930's of Indian Stamps. What is a good starting point to research values? They are from 33 States and very organized. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

There have been a great many Convention States appearing on ebay recently. I don't collect them myself - except incidentally - but I do know that Gibbons have marked some DOWN very savagely. For example, the Chamba State George VI 4 Anna mint has gone down from £20 in 2013 to £5 this year.

The starting point to get valuation of Indian Feudatory States stamps is Stanley Gibbons Stamp Catalog, the latest edition being 2013 4th Ed. which may not give the current market price as Stanley Gibbons 2017 Commonwealth and British Empire Stamp Catalogue 1840-1970 (popularly called SG Part I) but the former is lot cheaper than the latter (£27.95 vs £85.95).

https://www.stanleygibbons.com/indi...2873-13.html

SG valuation of IFS stamps often does not reflect the reality e.g. SG grossly undervalues Jammu and Kashmir 1874 ½A emerald green Special Printing watercolor circular (SG 68) of which only 5 mint stamps exist, or SG did for Barwani 1923 ¼A Ranjitsinh Indrajitsinh Shishodiya (1888#8210;1930) rose typograph on wove paper (SG 18da).

SG India is not as descriptive and specialized for IFS as Mundifil is for Índia Portuguêsa but still it is a good starting point.

This is great information!! Thank you so much. Going to see if I can get the book today. I appreciate you taking the time to chime in on this. I also have 2 envelopes that pre-date the postal system when they used dak runners. I have a lot of research to do.
