Hello,

I recently inherited some stamps and this 1c columbus in sight of land from 1893. On the envelope outside -error- was written. The stamp is from the postal commemorative society and all the others from this company appear to be mint and sealed.

Not sure if it's an error or canceled, can anyone tell me if it is an error and what kind? Does this increase or decrease any value it has?

Thanks!

-MH

Hi Mike, and welcome to the forum. Nice stamp, but then the Columbians are a pretty set.
It is hard to tell if there is an error on the stamp - the picture is fairly small. But you might give us a scan of the envelope, there may be an error on it?

Peter

Thanks for the response Petert4522. Yes I agree they are quite nice. I guess what I mean is that blackish streak on the stamp. I'm not sure if it's a cancellation because all the other stamps from these sets are mint it seems.

Here's the scan:

Certainly doesn't seem to be any error. Looks like a cancellation. Could be on the stamp, but also could be just on the plastic mount? Weird if the others are mint, but that just looks like a used stamp. Common stamp. Fancy PCS pages/envelopes don't add much other than making it look prettier...
