Hi,

Among the most unusual printing varieties of first issue revenue stamps, and perhaps one of the most uncommon, are printing voids.

These are caused by errant scraps of paper coming between the printing plate and the printed paper. Once the scrap has been removed, the "voided" area shows no ink whatsoever.

There is no foldover, nothing on the back, just a chunk of the printed image is missing.

Somehow these got past the Quality Control department.

See below. Does anyone have any others?

Jim

I have a similar example on currency, but have not seen this on a stamp. Thanks for posting!

Those are pretty cool, thanks for posting.

One thing I've often wondered, and maybe someone has some insight - were the quality controls on the manufacture and printing of revenue stamps similar to, or not as good as regular issue US stamps?

I don't have a significant background with revenues, but I do know that there are a lot of double transfers, inverted centers, and so on. My sense is that revenues didn't have the same quality controls.

So I guess I'm asking about both production and printing. Just curious.
