Since I am part Irish and with St. Patrick's Day coming up, I thought I would show some of my early Ireland stamps. It's a basic, one-stamp-and-done, collection. There are a lot of interesting variations for the specialist. Maybe someday ... Steiner Page 1 Steiner Page 2

Steiner page 3 modified This is a short set. Scott 25, 26, 31 and 35 are identical to Scott 15 to 18. The distinguishing feature is the ink color, black vs blue-black. According to Scott, it can be distinguished by examining the stamp back lighted with a 50 power magnification. For a one and done collection, that was too small a distinction. I've modified the Steiner pages accordingly. (One reason I love Steiner pages!) The missing stamp is the key to the series, Scott 38. I've "bought" that stamp three times only to have all the sales blow up. Someday I will get my courage up and try again. Steiner page 4 |

Steiner page 5 The coil stamps are not found imperforate. They are just closely trimmed on two sides. One distinguishing feature of a coil rather than a closely cut regular issue is that some of the coil stamps in the roll have a serif font on the bottom of the "1" in 1922. You can see the difference here: |

Super stuff, Dan. Well done you. Privileged to see such a complete collection on Steiner . I've not seen it before.
Are you going onwards after 1940 ? or can we take up the baton, and begin random Steiner pages after 1940?

Great job. My collection is in the same state ... waiting for #38. I check every auction and dealer and they are few and far between.
Recent scholarship has shown that the 9d issue of 1922 also was printed in a small quantity with a carmine, not red, overprint. Neither Steiner nor Scott provide a space for it.

Some beautiful pages, and a couple new details to watch out for. What more can you ask of a thread? |

Rod, thank you for the kind words! I would welcome you or anyone else on SCF to continue the thread. My collection diminishes after 1970. I need to do some more shopping! I completely ran out of gas when I encountered the "Birds." It is a definitive series (1996). I shot myself in the foot. The Scott descriptions were confusing so I adopted the Hinbernian catalog usage. It made sense to me. Great! One problem, I can't find any cross references to Scott. I can't find my missing stamps! Chris, Good luck with your search for a 38. The first time I thought I bought it, the vendor had "an inventory mix up" and didn't have the stamp. (A reputable vendor but I read he didn't get what he wanted for it). The second time I puled the trigger too soon and ended up with a Scott 14 that I returned. The last time, I asked questions and the vendor re-measured the stamp and pulled the offer with apologies to me because it wasn't correct. I'm not in the market for one now but I hope I don't end up bidding against you for the next one! Dan |

Hi Dan, I do not wish to take over / hijack your great thread, without your say. Here is some examples of my work, I am a Worldwide collector, so my material is more eclectic but with Steiner format. Do you wish me to carry on? or, start a general thread "Ireland on Steiner" and make a reference to your pre 1940 thread.? If so I can delete these pages with 48 hours as requested by the moderators / management. I am in your hands. 1963 Steiner Page 7 Personal Sundry Material Page 2 Personal Sundry Material Page 3 |

Dan, Rod and the others Great thread! I started collecting Ireland with a pack off 200 used stamps and recently bought 2 collections. I will have lots of duplicates. I also bought a 1981 Feldman cat of Ireland. As usual for any country collection I take my time and read to learn about Ireland. St-Patrick's day is a great event in Montreal and I may attend this year. We have Irish pubs full pack that day. I still remember years ago when I was young that cute girl at the shopping mall selling flowers. "Flowers for the St-Patrick!" Of course there is a long parade march 19 2017 on St-Catherine street that attract thousands. Daniel |
