I need some help with these stamps I acquired. I have no clue where to start. I'll post some.
Can you tell me what stamps from that period are special, and worth more than average?

BigMike, Nice collection of stamps. The first one is from Wurttemberg, a German State. A nice stamp, and you can find it's (retail) value if you go to http://stampworld.com .

Big Mike,

Welcome. You have what I think are nice items. I can add some detail on a few of them and let others chime in as well.

Third item (Haiti) marked as 23, this represents a Scott catalog number. The actual Scott Number is #25 since it has the overprint in Red. Scott Catalog for 2016 lists this as $3.00 in used condition.

Fourth Item (Norway) - appears to be Scott #4. Listed with $20 Used value. Should be unwatermarked Perf 13. Scott mentions reprints in 1914 and 1924 which may have Perf 13.5.

Fifth item (Austria) - appears to be Scott #9. This one has a couple of types based on size of frame line and if the frame line is broken at the top. This could be $2.40 stamp or a $20 item. This one would be fun to investigate a bit more and would need a close examination to be sure.

Again - these are nice and worth looking into. The link provided above may help you find more details and the local library may have the Scott Catalogs that could be used as well.

Hope this helps. Enjoy the search and learning experience.
Hobsun

Thank you Peter & Hobsun for this detailed information! It's a new experience for me to stroll along this classic stamps, often of lost countries with exotic names. Makes one dream of glorious pasts.
Is there any classic 'common' stamp is could be on the lookout for in this collection (1848-1907) ?

Your Haiti stamp, on Page
General Salomon.

Your Labuan Stamp.
A youthful looking Queen Victoria, (Yet she was 66yo when this stamp was produced)

The barred postmark suggests this stamp was not used but CTO as "remainders"

In the above link you'll find the same Bermuda stamp I also have, but the condition is clearly not the same. Is it still valuable ?

These are different stamps. Yours is, unfortunately, common, and not worth anything at all because of the damage.

Hi, I hope you didn't mean Württemberg with lost and exotic state :). I live in Baden-Württemberg which is some kind of successor, though no own state.

Here you find a nice map of Germany around the time of your Württemberg stamp:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipe...her_Bund.png

Note that this was not "Germany" but like a union of states (like European Union), of many many many German states.

Looks nice - post some pics of the early US stamps when you get a chance. And more pages from other countries

you strike me as somewhat new at collecting.

i would advice you to think about a goal, or you'll end up buying alot of stuff you might not need in the end.

world wide collection, or maybe just asia?
quality? will spacefillers do?
unused? cancelled? some stamps are impossible to find unused, and some extremely costly cancelled... will a mix be ok?.... are you fascinated with the postal history, or the design of stamps?

you mentioned value once, and "what to keep an eye out for"... if you aim to collect for profit, or hope to find something extremely rare, a safe bet would say you'll end up poor and disappointed.

so figure out what fascinates you, and go for that, and do share your thoughts on this.
