Using that old trick of comparing an R145 or R148 to gauge R135a since the myriad shades of R135 can play tricks on your eyes.

Looking at the images below, all stamps were scanned together on a single pass. The two left R135 are definitely orange, there for comparison. It's the far right stamp that definitely has more magenta in the color than the two left stamps. I'm wondering if it might be vermilion, just faded... or it could be any other type of changeling, including faded orange. Likely not legit, but it's off just enough from other orange shades that I'm questioning the possibility.

Obviously it would need a cert as one doesn't buy or sell R135a without a cert... ever.

Rather I'm trying to gauge opinion as to whether it's worth throwing $27 away to send it in.

Thoughts?

P.S. I *HATE* trying to gauge color...

Hi,

If it helps any, attached is a 1200 dpi scan of a certified R135a (1992 P. F. cert #265312). Eric Jackson submitted the stamp, so between the two (Eric and the P. F.), it's probably legit.

To me, your right-most stamp and mine look like a match.

Jim

I have several certed examples of R135a on documents, but they're in my safety deposit box, so not close at hand. It's very hard to compare across images scanned on different equipment at different times.

Thanks though for the comparison piece. Yours looks more of a vermilion than my stamp above though...

Based on your comparison scan I would say it has a high probability.
However like most, I hate to give a guess on color based on a scan.
