I agree that If Scott gives a major Scott number to any variety, it becomes a hot commodity.

these three stamps (bluish papers) were broken into singles and then expertly reattached into a strip of 3.

Sold for 60,000$.

Wow. Would have never guessed there was such interest in bluish paper stamps.! I mean this isn't even a sound strip!

/Well it is finally happening now that the big philatelic show in NYC last year is over. We have lost thousands of wacked-out E-bay buyers who over paid and purchase anything and everything on ebay.

Bold statement with no proof offered.

I'm sorry but I also am lost on this post. Bunny buyers or traders? (no clue what that is.) What info says that only people 65 and older buy stamps? What factual info do you have that sales are down on ebay and elsewhere. It's a huge hobby - perhaps sales are down in just one or two areas? These may truths, but would like to see some facts.

The market would most likely go down when the number of buyers is going down just due to the state of the buyer base (collectors, dealers) for auctions. Auction houses lived off bragging about rising prices realized.

There are some telling me that the economy is booming. I expect complaints. It when the stock market is up due to irrational exuberance and then wonder why it drops dramatically.

I do not see ebay as the problem but exposes problems already with the commercial side of the hobby. There have always been sellers trying to sell junk for high prices. The difference now is buyers have a lot more choices too.

How would one describe someone that takes inexpensive stamps, encapsulates it in plastic, puts a grading on them and then charges a very high price for the result?

What is a "Bunny"? CanadaStamp asked and centerstage98 asked. Still no answer. I'd tell them but I don't know myself! Responses?

Naive collectors who believe the nonsense that some sellers are telling them.

Thanks ekbustad. I sort of guessed that was the case but wasn't sure.

I will never look at Evian the same way again.

Sort of like when I found the Fedex "arrow" in their logo.

Bunny no more.

EKBUSTAD is correct , good explanation . Some people want to believe the hype and are not happy with just a fair purchase .They want to feel they out smarted the seller and got a bargain .
When I become a stamp dealer ,I will use certain key words in my ads . I like "unpicked "" older material " "selling for a decease collector" "Rare issue" "not yet listed in specialized catalogs" and "rare variety". I also will be writing long stories for what I have up for sale ,it seems the more B.S. attached to a item the more valuable it is . I want "BUNNIES" to feel they got me and walked away by out smarting me on a deal .

Are you saying that the easiest person to trick is the one who thinks that they have outsmarted you when in fact you have outsmarted them instead? The problem with some is that when you tell them the truth, they don't believe you, but when one lies they do. Maybe they like getting their ears tickled like bunnies do.

Thankfully, money has never caused me to resort to trickery. I enjoy giving good value on what I sell and hope that BUYERS are able to feel good about their purchases without any BS sales pitches.

Oh and that so-called sheriff who so disdains ebay has no problem encouraging buyers to buy his goods to sell on that wicked site.
