here, here. I was one of the unfortunate ones that bough a lot of stuff in one order. Year books stank to high heaven, stamps stuck to backing, a collectible album falling apart and he said to use some glue to fix it. Then he told me I am too fussy. And he hates ebay, he is one of the biggest bad sellers I have ever dealt with. |

I'm really out of the loop on this one. Who or what is this "sheriff" people are talking about? |

Lets' see if I can say this politically correct...The forum is the Australian stamp forum which has a 'less than ideal' reputation. It is run by a person (Sheriff is his forum name) who is highly polarizing; folks either like him a lot or do not like him a lot. Don
Edited to add: The down under forum left such a bad taste in my mouth a number of years ago that I walked away from my Australian stamps and have not revisited them since. |

Just to stress that, whilst aspects of the Aussie forum leave much to be desired, there is a huge amount of useful information on there! |

I don't disagree.
However, if the so called Sheriff left, it would be a great and useful forum and some of the newbies might stay.
His membership is probably 90% of people he has kicked out or people that have left after being abused.
Even some of his long time active members from Australia are starting to give him some static.

Thanks for the information, folks. I don't collect Australia so I haven't had the occasion to visit this forum being referenced. If I do decide to start learning about this area, would this "Sheriff" forum still be a useful place to visit? Are there certain things I should be careful to avoid doing, saying, or otherwise get involved in to stay on the forum? |

It covers a lot more than Australia. I just read, I don't bother posting. |

Ditto for me. I think I've made only 1 or 2 post a few years back. Since then, I just read the info, skip the caustic comments, and don't bother posting. |

Sorry, should have prefaced my original question to clarify - are you all talking about the Australia section of this forum or a completely different forum? |

The forum encompasses everything philatelic. It's just located down under. The Sheriff also is a dealer and puts out a newsletter and price list. I read the forum for a while but never participated/caustic. I read the newsletter and bought once from the price list/heavily toned. I have gladly abandoned all things GS/Sheriff.
He is extremely well traveled and that aspect of his travels/stories does have some interest but I stay away as his legion of haters keeps his newsletter/price list open to spam and a whole lot worse. |
