Here's an Austrian postcard dating from around 1916, in the middle of World War I. It seems to have some sort of coupons attached; can anyone tell what they are?

This was done by the regional government of Niederosterreich (Lower Austria) it was not for the entire country. Lower Austria is the area that surrounds Vienna.

They look like ration coupons.

The first, "Fettkarte" translates to "Fat Card" and goes on to mention things made with animal fats: I see bacon ("Speck"), butter and margerine mentioned there; it is for one person for six weeks. The second has to do with bread as already mentioned, and is for one person for two weeks ("14 Tage").

What a verse suitable for the occasion (in kurrent script) on food rationing in 1916:

Wien 6.10.16
Herr, gieb uns unser täglich Brot
Und räche nicht der Seelen Fehl
In grausam harter Zeit der Not
an Eiern, Butter, Milch und Mehl.
Lasst, Herr, der Erde Frucht gedeihen,
Erhöhe süss der Rübe Saft,
Und schreibst Du uns ins Leben ein,
Verleihe auch der Karte Kraft.
