The sound tracks are copyrighted but allowed by the original artists. As per YouTube "The copyright claimant is allowing their content to be used in your YouTube video. However, ads might appear on it." Don
I enjoyed it. To be honest, I think we cant turn the tide. Our best hope would have been thirty or forty years ago but I think that Stamp Collecting entered a cul-de-sac and cannot come out. I dont think that the problem is ...in itself...Stamp Collecting. I think young people get the concept of relaxation, history, leisure, collecting, investment. But I am often troubled by a kinda "group think" mentality within Stamp Collectors. A "group think" that is not diverse enough for young people in 2017. I think thats off-putting.
28% of the population is over 55 14% between 45 and 55
This is one reason for all those rerun channels and history shows on cable.
Like as has been said previously, stamp collecting is known but do not think people become collectors until they have a connection with something. It may be region, a topic (like birds and animals), historical interest in an era, etc. One also needs to have the organizer or collector gene.
I think the stuff shown above is a positive move for the hobby and will result in more interest by people not presently involved . My opinion is that people want to get involued because others are doing it and it has a "cool factor" to it .
Don - great work! Though Dans grandson may be right the new generation could perceive the video '2008', it's still the most up-to-date stamp presentation I've ever seen. Powerful music and images, way to go.
I am not a graphic artist; but I welcome anyone try their creative hand to help our hobby.
Added a new 'space' video this morning (below). I have not yet had the time but I will, at some point, go back and add 'CC' (closed captions) which will identify each stamp. I did not want to add this in during the development of the video since I could not figure out how to turn them on and off. But I know how to do this in YouTube after publishing them. Don
I think most posters on youtube rely on some copyright owners not complaining. It is clear many copyright owners do not enforce their copyright by demanding removal..which has made youtube as popular as it is. I know they have used software to identify these since some videos get posted but only the sound gets removed. One key aspect is to use lower quality video/audio settings.
YouTube uses algorithms to detect copyright infringements and in fact they are quite good. They will rarely detect music incorrectly (especially classical music for some reason) but for the most part they are very accurate. Many Copyright owners understand the value of having YouTuber support and have entered into agreements with YouTube to pay them without needing to charge the casual video poster. They do this through the use of ad revenue; so on many video you will see ads pop up during the video. This is a sign that there are copyright royalties being paid. It is actually pretty slick of YouTube to work it out like this; if they did not have this in place YouTube would have far fewer videos. Don
Edit: They also enforce regional copyrights laws, so they will automatically block some videos depending on copyrights in various countries. The David Bowie sound track I used in the Space video is blocked in some countries due to this.
Don, I think these videos are just fantastic. The War Stamps video actually brought a tear to my eyes. I think you are on to something good and great for the hobby!
Don, all of the work that you have shared, this to me is mind altering!
With Easter getting close, I would like to share an extraordinary video gift, that you shared with us on this earlier thread. Patty and I have shed a few tears watching it. She asked me to see it tonight.
