Germany - 1922-23 40m greenish olive rare shade

Can you scan the stamp next to a colour chart with greenish-olive? It looks a bit too green to me.

Previous discussions have focused on perception of colours and scanner settings, so it's wise to see a comparison with a known colour before coming to conclusions.

It is difficult to to tell shades from scans. This does not appear to me, on my screen, to be olive green.

None of these appear to be MiNr 244 c, greenish olive. They're dirty copies of the common colors, MiNr 244 a and MiNr 244 b.

Determining original color variety of a faded/toned/dirty stamp is next to impossible and inherently unreliable. If you are looking for the greenish olive variety, first pick out clean stamps and THEN check the color shade.

If you think one of them might be greenish olive, please scan it TOGETHER with some STANDARD green or greenish olive or olive green color reference (e.g., a philatelic color guide). Otherwise, we really don't know if what we see on our screen, is the same as what you see on your screen, is the same as what is actually the stamp color. For me, I find green color shades difficult to determine without a side-by-side direct comparison.

Why not try to buy a new or second hand Michel colour guide. This gives you almost all the information you will need. Remember all stamp colors can fade and pigments can change, so sometimes it is impossible to determine what color it is.

It will always be impossible to determine colors from a computer imagine.
