In this case, the ink is gray, and the paper is lemon. Other ink color selections in this design have some degree of purple in the ink, more or less.
The gray examples on lemon paper are ordinary paper, not chalk-surfaced paper. (Some of the purple examples are ordinary paper and some are chalk-surfaced paper.)
SG doesn't list a "used" price for either of the gray, lemon options (277a and 285a), for what it is worth.
In the Scott catalog, the italicized color will be the paper color. In this case, the paper color will either be yellow or lemon.

Forget the lemon vs yellow (or orange yellow) paper, as you really can't distinguish among them from a simple scan. Instead, the key is to look for the grey ink, which CAN be easily noticed as it is very distinct from the other color shades. Compare the 3 stamps posted by edw_kim.
The grey ink will only exist on lemon paper. After which, you only need to determine if perf 14 or perf 15x14, both of which have major premiums.
