I didn't find this stamp in the Feldman Catalogue "Stamps of Ireland" 1981. Where can I find it and what is his recent cat. value for used. Thank you. Daniel
langtounlad It's a British stamp used in Ireland before Ireland issue his own stamps. The cancel is Dublin, Ireland. They are list in my David Feldman catalogue. Regards. Daniel
GeoffHa Thank you! I have another one GB used in Ireland. I have 20 Irish pounds as value in the Feldman cat. 1981. What is it nowaday? Thank you. Daniel
perf12 The overprint was on the British stamp before the cancel. It's an overprint British stamp that was cancelled in Dublin. They were used in Ireland before the independence. Daniel
And I am uncertain if they had multiple cancelling devices at this PO, but the cancel is definitely different. Best way to demonstrate the difference is to show how a semi-transparent layer does not line up...
The ARMY OFFICIAL stamp looks ok to me... both overprint and cancel. It is a case of the eyes seeing what it wants to see or has been suggested. To me the "N" of DUBLIN clearly overlaps the "L" of the overprint. It would not have been remotely cost effective to fake these stamp overprints or cancels. At the time of the famous "forgers" the genuine stamp, complete with genuine overprint and cancel, could have been bought for One Penny according to my ancient catalog. Stanley Gibbons 2017 cv is around £15 today and are available from dealers for around £2.50
