Hello,

I am pretty new to collecting and don't know much about precancels, even don't have a PSS catalogue. But when I browsed in my big flea market album and two other old family albums I got, I always looked also at precancels as it is interesting which towns appear there. I didn't put aside those normal New York and Chicago things, but precancels I supposed they could be something collectable. I made some plugin cards and show you a scan. I am quite glad with those, which for me are not ordinary towns or precancel types.

So my questions would be:
- are those all precancels, probably with exception of the two purple ones (4c Martha Wash., 2c Wash.) and the triple Philadelphia?
- are there any beneath them which would deserve a "first row" in my album as they play in the 1st Precancel League?

thank you.

I highly suggest getting the PSS T&T and Bureau catalogs. My druthers is for the computer database version. I have found it easy to use and invaluable for identifying and cataloging. It also has the advantage of no shipping charge. Moreover, you can print a Bureau album from the Bureau catalog. You can print T&T album pages from the free files at http://www.precancels.com/free-albums/

Good luck!

A few are not precancels such as row/column: 1/6, 6/3, 10/2. No rare ones in this group but fun to sort and identify. Post more pix if you like - people here can identify any good ones.

Thank you both. So I was correct in thinking that these three are no precancels.
The wrong "Wash D.C." in the last row is nice, isn't it :) ?

Yes, the catalogue would be the best, but as long as precancels are not my main collection it's quite expensive. Actually I don't have more to show as this is only the result of looking into 3 albums for some weeks. That's all I have collected...

From what I read on the provided link, their album pages follows their catalogue closely, so it would seem that the album pages are a catalogue of sorts.

hello everybody again,

well, I was wrong, of course I have some more precancels, I had sorted them into the issues already. So here I made the photos of those. Again, I only kept those I liked because of interesting design or town.

Hope you enjoy looking and giving me your opinion :).

Any precancel on the Scotts C2 airmail is a nice find - and Stockton CA is not one of the common ones. It books 17.50 in the PSS Classics IIa catalog- only about half the SCV but a lot more sellable.

thank you. what about this one which "crosses itself" (15c), were there two precancels on the same stamp but with different orientation?

That double, normal/up, is unusual but since it is a handstamp precancel [not printed] it would not carry a premium. The basic precancel books for 0.25 USD.

hello chasa,

thank you again. I don't have more precancels at this time. But let me know if I should upload better and single images for any of those shown above where the precancel is not visible well or not sharp. But probably you as an expert even see with no sharp precancel which one it is :).

It is a Bureau issue type 063, with a PSS catalog value of $0.15 (USD).

There are paper catalogs, and CD based catalogs, but they cost money. If you post a bunch of them here we can tell you if you have any scarce ones. 150 dpi is plenty unless something unusual comes up.
