Finland's 1976 Christmas stamp depicts a "traditional sleigh-ride to church on Christmas morning" (Facit). The cancellation is a village postmark of Hirtolahti, which is near Orivesi in the southwest of the country.  |

The Spreewald region of Germany can only be traveled on canals. In bygone days the postman could deliver the mail on skates; nowadays the canals don't freeze over enough for that.   (Great new additions!) |
