Finland's 1976 Christmas stamp depicts a "traditional sleigh-ride to church on Christmas morning" (Facit).

The cancellation is a village postmark of Hirtolahti, which is near Orivesi in the southwest of the country.

The Spreewald region of Germany can only be traveled on canals. In bygone days the postman could deliver the mail on skates; nowadays the canals don't freeze over enough for that.

(Great new additions!)

The Postauto can take mail, packages and people into the snowy valleys of Switzerland (1953). The first one began operations in 1906 and looked about like the one on the postcard which reads "Have a good trip into the New Year!"

In the early 1980s Switzerland issued a series of stamps depicting Swiss scenes with signs of the Zodiac. The fishes, being in winter, show the small snow-bound village of Nax near Sitten in the south of the country.

Scuol is another winter paradise, but just as perfect for summer hiking tours in the Swiss Alps (you might even see a Capricorn up close to the peaks).

One in a set of Mongolian stamps dedicated to the painter A. Sangatzohyo shows you how a blizzard can look in that part of the world (1968).

(Does anyone have the biography of this painter? And Alexey, that Austrian Breugel is beautiful!))
