Any time ebay promises that a new feature/tool will have all of the features of a tool they are phasing out, DO NOT BELIEVE THEM until/unless the features actually show up. I learned this lesson the hard way on the affiliate side of their operation. They would routinely beta test replacement tools/widgets and when affiliates would complain about existing functionality not existing in the new beta versions, ebay would spin a placating yarn about not to worry, that the new tool would have all the features of the old one before the old one was phased out... never happened. Ultimately it was left to the end user to try and find a workaround on their own.

While I love many things about ebay as a buyer and seller, they are the very embodiment of that old chestnut usually used in reference to politicians: "How can you tell they are lying? Their lips are moving."

Unless listings are archived locally, they are vulnerable to the whims of ebay. I have heard reports of Stamp Category users losing thousands of listings because ebay considered them to be "stale". Without backup, there is no recourse and may be no way to resurrect or resubmit older listings with new pricing. Some have reported that ebay has mistakenly suspended or removed the wrong account. Getting listings and images back could be problematic.

Of the desktop listing management programs, SixBit is the safest alternative. Competitors now exist, but may or may not survive in the marketplace.

I have sales records going back more than ten years making it possible to identify long-time or repeat customers.

Not for everyone but...
You can get creative with 'Print View' and/or save as PDF to save and store listings on your PC. This is good for record keeping but of course is limited in being able to 'reuse' the listing. (A work-around is to 'copy and paste' the info from the saved PDFs into a new listing.)
