Dear Stamp Community Family

I have some more spanish stamps to identify. The first one I could not find in my edifil nor in Michel. I assume it could be a Revenue/Fiscal stamp. Does anyone knows it? When was this issued (year)?

The second one is probably overprinted during Civil War in spain by Nacionalists. Does anyone know from which province, city or region?

The third one is what I call a "Poster Stamp". They promote tourism on the Island of Tenerife, where they have "the best climate of the world". Does anyone know the year of issue?

The fourth and last one is unfortunately badly taken. But how will we look after just 125 years? In the Forbin catalog (1915) I find only a similar edition with 75 c. de Peso. Does anyone know more about it?

I already thank you for the hoped-for answers.

Best regards from Switzerland.

André

Andre, are you sure that last one is not Swiss? It has the correct holes in it!

Last one is a Spanish Revenue.

The first one, belongs to the last duty stamps series of Franco's fascist dictatorship. Issued on the 60's, it was used well into the end of the 70's (Franco, died on 1975).

The last one, looks like a cut off of a colonial (Cuba, Puerto Rico or Philipines) duty form.

Last one Spanish Colonial Philippines.
Usage unknown, Cursus' description sounds on the mark.

I have revenues from Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Philippines
They all look similar (to the untrained eye)
not mine.
Unlisted Forbin

What is your reasoning behind this Andre? ...curious.

Curious also to the date? the insurrection began on July 17 at Melilla, ( 2 days earlier)

Your overprint, I cannot see listed, but the handbook is not exhaustive.

Hello André,

You are right about the !Viva Espana! stamp.

It's a Nationalist issue from Vitoria in Alava, SG E18.

I'm not sure if it's genuine or not as it seems to have characteristics of two types.

SG says these stamps were authorised on 30th March 1937 and issued on 7th April 1937.

I guess the date on the stamps may be when the nationalists took control of Vitoria.

I believe the 35 centavos revenue stamp is from Cuba, Forbin "Sello" #77 bleu-foncé.

Hi Nigel,
some juicy information there, thanks.

I had always wondered why I could not find the early revs in Forbin, (No Images)
So they were always there, just hiding.

Cuba

Some advice from Rudy Roy, back in 2003 when I was searching.

Hi Rod,

Yes, I've played this same game before hunting round Forbin trying to find which of these Spanish area stamps was from which territory.

I'm not sure about your quote from Rudy Roy. I think he must be referring to a later series from the Cuban republic.

The references to unwatermarked and star watermarked stamps are in line with what was happening at the time with the postal definitives.

I hadn't seen the name "La Moderna Poesia" before.

SG identify the printer of the postal issues at the time as J. L. Rodriquez of Havana (although they agree on the engravers being Security Bank Note Company of Philadelphia).

I wonder if "La Moderna Poesia" was an associated company, maybe the publisher or agent as opposed to the printer? I see it was the name of a large bookshop in Havana.

In any case, thanks very much for sharing this quote.

It has led me just now to finding Rudy's excellent web page on Cuban perfins:

Hi Nigel,
thanks...more interesting information.

Yes, some of my image captures of assistance, are disjointed, they were early days for me, and I wasn't marrying the help, to the stamp image. I often kick myself in the butt for that. I often have to guess what answer goes with what image.

Hey!....great link there of Rudy's (a keeper) Thanks again.

Dear rod222, Dear nigelc, Dear Cursus

It is really amazing what there are experts for each area in this community. Thank you very much. Now, three are identified. The stamp with the overprint of Vitoria I have now even found in my Edifil catalogue. And now that I know that this flyspeck is a pomegranate under the Spanish coat of arms, I found it in my Forbin catalogue (of course, I apologize to all Cubans for my comment).

A word to Petert4522: In Switzerland, we have not only cheese

and chocolate,

but also gold is available in tons. Unfortunately too well hidden for me ...

Best regards from Switzerland

André

Andre, I was of course kidding about the holes in the stamp. I have very warm feelings for Switzerland - I used to visit quite a bit way back in the 50's and I collect her stamps!
