This is not as colorful, but it shows man's interest in Hot Air balloons in the 19th Century. This cover was mailed circa 1864 and part of a noted correspondence.



Here is a close up of the ballon.

The stamp set marks the bicentenary of the world's first manned flight in a balloon over Paris, France in 1783. The design includes images of the Civil War observation balloon Intrepid (1861), stratospheric balloon Explorer II (1935), and modern sport hot air balloons.

Bicentenary of the Air and Space
March 21, 1983
The se-tenant pair commemorates the manned free balloon flights. One stamp shows the November 21, 1783 flight by Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and the Marquis d'Arlandes in a Montgolfier hot air balloon. The other shows the December 1, 1783 flight by Jacques Charles and Nicolas-Louis Robert in a hydrogen balloon.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a hot air balloon, designed by Austrian artist Auguste Böcskör, combined engraved by Maria Magdalena Laurent and photogravure, and issued by Austria on June 8, 2001 to commemorate the centenary of the Austrian Astro Club, Scott No. 1846.
