itma..Does not look like a halo around words as we see a close up. This is weird..Looks like an upside down "A" Put the "S" upside down like you suggested...Still looks normal. |

The 42c Christmas stamp with the pink look is a damaged stamp, due to improper soaking.
The border around the edge of the stamp is the underlying tagging. It repelled most of the contamination from a red (or pink) coloured envelope that came into contact with the front of the stamp when being soaked in water.
I would throw the stamp out so a future collector a hundred years from now is not confused by it.

Wert: Quote: Put the "S" upside down like you suggested...Still looks normal. The smaller loop of an S is usually uppermost. As the stamp is printed the smaller loop of the S is at the bottom. This struck me as unstable and odd from the moment I first saw it. Your modification looks far better to me. Frank. |

Frank. You are correct..."S" mistake upon printing..Maybe There are mistakes made like the reverse "Z" in a Newfoundland Scott 92.
I even have a couple of covers that have the YEAR date upside down. Good eye Frank on the "S"..You are becoming a good flyspecker.
For all others out there to become a flyspecker, below is my 2 rules to become one.
Flyspecker rules. 1 - See what is there that should not be. 2 - See what is not there that should be.

Flyspecking? Not a problem. My food and drink are the Australian KGV Sideface definitives. Can you see what identifies this stamp? Or which of the million flyspecks indentifies this one? I'll give the answers tomorrow. |

Quote: Maybe {maybe} not a variety..But just an oddity..?? Wert, WHAT are you trying to say? I tried before, but failed, Please define very clearly in words your definition of: What is a variety? What is an oddity? No pictures, just words. |

variety is a differing from other stamps of the same kind
Errors are stamps with serious mistakes.
Freaks are less serious defects, being stamps whose variations are minor.

I only give up because I asked two simple questions and I can't even get answers to them. |
