I've sold some items on ebay the last few days and at the bottom of the sold listing in My ebay has been an ebay note with a ship by date. It just started in the last few days. I normally ship in one day and my listings show that. Is this ebay nagging me about something or just some sort of promo and they want to be sure I get the stuff in the mail? I wonder what would happen if I took 2 days to ship an item?

Just wait until the note requires that the item be mailed on a postal holiday. A seller has the option to commit to some level of service like same or next day shipping. However, ebay may have defaulted the settings for sellers who did not go to the Selling Preferences after new sections were added (without notification). Finding the settings could be a problems also. It may be necessary to call ebay a couple of different times until an English speaking representative is found or two or more broken English reps give consistent and credible answers.

I started seeing them over the holiday weekend and the computer seemed to have enough sense to push the date to Tuesday when the post offices were open again. I was just wondering if I was the only "lucky" recipient of these 'reminders' or if this was something new on ebay's part.

I see the notices. They would have been wrong at the beginning of the year when Christmas and New Years Day were on Sunday and the postal holiday was the day after. I had to call to expunge "late tracking uploaded" incidents from the record. For stamp dealers who are not Top Rated shipping a day late may not matter, but it may be a bad idea to go against the wishes of the plantation owner.

I used 1 day handling for a long time in order to qualify for the Top Rated discount but it just became too difficult. ebay monitors shipping dates closely and any little snafu and I would be on the phone with them. I switched to 5 day handling time and it made no difference in my sales and I have received no complaints. I even used 30 day handling time for a couple weeks to work around a vacation and still no complaints.

I suggest using the 5 day handling time and then ship as fast as you can.

I gave up on the TRS discount years ago when ebay went to a tracking requirement since the majority of my sales are (comparatively) low dollar light-weight shipments. Letters with nonmachineable surcharges, not parcels, and thus ineligible for tracking.

Also, stamp collectors want stamps on their letters. Some get downright irate if you use PayPal/eBay shipping to print labels instead of affixing stamps.

No, the TRS and its ever-increasing hoops to jump through just aren't worth it. I have 3-day handling and I have yet to get a complaint about it. Occasionally around the holidays I will get a request to ship it the next day or by date X, as presumably it is a gift, but that's about it.

I fondly remember the days of ebay B.P (before PayPal)...when you had a good week or more before shipping a sold item pending receipt of money order or cheque in the mail..

But at least ebay has done something about the mailing feedback section that many people were making what the time the PO took to get the item to the buyer.

Now the feedback situation has changed to how long it takes me to get the item to the PO instead.

Unless I have it wrong. But it looks like ebay got something very right.

Usually for stamp collectors, I use stamps but I sometimes may also include a low denomination meter label from a post office because it can serve for me at least and to quell any doubt or suspicion that the seller may have whether or not I have sent something out to them. How and why? The meter is recorded on the postal receipt with their postal code. This does not hold up to ebay/paypal standards of any proof for items that are sent by regular mail but it helps to show that something was mailed out to them on a certain date and this can help to temporarily assuage their fears if the item is taking a little longer than usual in the mail.

As a Canadian listing on ebay.com, I am able to keep my TRS status even though I don't need to provide tracking and can ship within 3 days.

If that were not the case, I wouldn't even try to keep TRS.

Do you get the 20% discount with 3 day shipping? We have to ship with 1 Day shipping for the discount, but are still TRS if we don't.
