Hi Everyone,

I picked up this item as part of a large lot of German stamps.

My gut feeling is that it is Russian - possibly military related.

I am not very good with reading/understanding cyrillic - but I believe the last part of the inscription says " 30pf ". If this is the case it may be related to the German occupation starting in 1918.

It is fully gummed on the back and the perfs/roulette are fairly ragged. There is also a faint design/motif in the background running down the center of the stamp.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rich

The best I could arrive at is as follows:

1918 Stamps issued for the 10th army, text in Russian KOHTPOPbHbIN 3HaKb:

Two stamps were issued, both with a grey underprint: 30 p black and 60 p black. There also exists an overprint in red on the 30 p black (the 60 p was also prepared with this overprint, but did not come into use). All these stamps are rare.

Hope this helps to get you closer.

Great info! Stamps are intertwined with modern (1840s to present) world history and the research of these stamps are essentially a history lesson.

I don't really have anything to add above and beyond the info in my previous post (linked above by YeaPolska), except to note that CV as of 2016 is €400 for MNH, €70 for MH.

Thanks guys. With your help I have been able to get the full story on this stamp and it brethern. My copy is MNH.

It is refered to as Landesbotenpost der 10. Armee and was issued in 1918 and used primarily around the Minsk area.

This one item has more than paid for the entire lot and shipping from the UK. I collect German stamps particularly anything related to the military and the feldpost system. This will get a prominent place in my collection. I will now need to track down the 60pf version as well as examples on postcard/cover.

Thanks
Richard

You will have to check the watermark, but with the "Talleres de Imp. de Est. y Valores-Mexico" imprint, it will be one of the following in the Scott catalog for Mexico:

#730(1937), wmk 153
#785(1944), wmk 272
#838(1947), wmk 279

Yes, I agree that you have wmk 272 (S.H.C.P. MEXICO) for the 1944 issue.

Nice clear watermark picture!
