Hey all. I'm collecting Knoxville, TN postmarks on covers for pre-1875 period. I was wondering if there were any resources that cataloged the postmarks for various cities for 18th century??? Thanks in advance.

Luke

You should look at the American Stampless Cover Catalog for listings of markings for the pre 1855 period. The books are currently being updated (slowly), but you can find info on them and the preliminary listings for the various states at the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society website - uspcs.org

Direct link to the pages with the draft sections is: http://www.uspcs.org/resource-cente.../your-input/

Also, you can look on Jim Forte's site - postalhistory.com for what he might have in stock for Knoxville.

Jerry Palazzo, a dealer, is also the editor of the Tennessee Postal History Journal (or some such name). He authored an article in the last year for the USPCS Chronicle on Tennessee Post Offices Reopened During Federal Occupation

Hope that helps.

Did you mean 19th century or only 18th century. !8th century would be the 1700s, 19th century would be the 1800s and you mentioned prior to 1875.

The only book on Tennessee philatelic literature I know about is "Tennessee Post Offices and Postmaster Appointments 1789-1984" by D. Frazer. I understand that it unfortunately is known for having some errors and mistakes, but I do not know of any other such reference books.
