I have this cover. It has an East Saxonian and a West Saxonian stamp on it. It was posted in Leipzig. My question is as follows. What was the postion of Leipzig in East and West Saxonia postal area? Was this kind of mixed postage only possible in the Leipzig postal area? Thanks for your thoughts. Kind regards. Johan

Untill the 28th of February 1946 the postal rates of Deutsches Reich were still in use.
The 30 pfennig covers the registered part of the postage paid an additional 12 pfenning was needed for the normal postage of the letter. So as far as I can see, 42 pfenning seems to be correct.

According to the Michel catalog, OPD Liepzig (West Saxony) was joined with OPD Dresden (East Saxony) from 1 Oct 1945 to 31 Jan 1946. And all Soviet Zone OPD and local issues were valid in the combined area starting 29 Oct 1945. So it would seem normal that they would be using stamps from either East or West Saxony (or both as in the case) on a letter mailed on 17 Dec 1945.
