Bought a lot of Austrian covers , all addressed to the same person. In the lot there were 2 registered covers, and both of them had a stamp on the back. Was this a common practice to put a stamp on the back to show the letter was registered? Also found interesting, that not only there are wax seals to close the back, but there are also wax seals in the interior to further protect its content I guess.

Very nice cover codex. Yes, it was common to put stamps on the flap to seal it back then. |

Thanks perf12 and Bee See. Yes, it was a noble, since few covers have Baron referring to him. Also, he was a Major in the army as this cover testify, but cannot understand the full title in the address, if anyone can help. |

I am curious about the curved square postmark in previous post, does the shape signify any special purpose? Thanks in advance |

Blaamand, those rectangle and fuzzy postmarks was popular in the pre-stamps area, ...here some Wien post mark pre-stamps area, quite elaborated , it comme from the Edwin Muller's "Handbook of the pre-stam^s postmark of Austria" |
