I use a Lighthouse album for Sweden which uses the European method of providing spaces for pairs of the booklet issues. Not a major issue to find sets including pairs when shopping on ebay. When I go to just about any show however it's a different matter. Few dealers cater to that here in the US. Sets on sale usually include just one of each on the booklet stamps. Sometimes you run across a dealer offering both formats in his/her stock but that's rare and usually those are the larger dealers, the ones that just go to major shows. Just one of those complicating things I guess and not a biggie.

I was lucky to pick up a mint collection for $200 that was complete from 1945-1993ish including all pairs and booklet panes some of which are quite high cat. It is one of my favourite things and I have gradually been adding pre1945 items as I find them.
I guess you know about Jay Smith. I tend to use vf-auction.dk as I'm in Europe. |

Thanks, I know about Jay and have bought from him.
I do enhoy perusing dealer stock at shows and since I live here in the US I find it difficult to get anything not formatted as in Scott.

I don't think Lighthouse fallow an European style. They do more research than Davo and Scott and customize their albums to each country. As example US album flow Scott # and coil are by pair. Every serious collectors collect the US coil in pair. Canada don't fallow Scott, coil are single airmail are with other stamps.
Beside you can expect everyone to fallow Scott style.
If you want the single approach get a Scott or Palo album. Lighthouse cost more to fill and they do fallow the countries style of collecting. I don't see a problem with the booklets. I see it as a better and more customized way to do.
Even Minkus was not fallowing the Scott way.

AnthonyUK, I suppose then you don't collect postally used booklet pairs; THAT would be quite tough. Plus I'd hate to be going through a dealer's stock only to find a used pair broken into singles. |

Lighthouse does indeed require pairs on booklet stamps. I have the album.
I also collect Israel- currently using an album that accommodates single, non tabs, only. Try going to a show and finding anything for that album past the first few pages. Another case where one needs to order on line.
Not complaining, it is what it is. |

In my view, stamps with diferent perforation pattern are just different stamps. And, as I collect Sweden since many years ago, I look for all the perforation variation. Collecting them used, it's very hard to find used booklet pairs. So, I'm ok finding separated stamps with no perforation at right or at left.
That said, I must also state, that being European, I collect European way. I don't like the Scott's settings used by Steiner pages; although it's a cost-effective compromise. But, I like charity and airmail stamps to be listed alongside the "regular ones". In general, I try to find albums coming from the country that issues the stamps I collect. Language, is not an issue, as (like many Continental Europeans) I can read some different European. languages. |
