This is 2010 census data. This is why so much (like advertising) are chasing after the middle age and up group these days. This is where the disposable income is. AARP is now after anyone over 50 - retired or not.

No Politics!
Also remember, not everyone on SCF is in the USA so our government is irrelevant to them.
I'm not talking about your post @angore -- it's fine. There were a couple of political replies that I deleted. --Kirk |

And that demographic bump will continue to move older with the aging population and slowing birth rate. |

Hi, it appears only a small fraction of people make it to age 80.
Suspect for the younger collectors today, soon (me included) there will be good stamp deals in the near future.
Wish I was much younger.

I would think that the "upper bands" are likely growing due to the baby boomers (1946-1964) moving up through the bands.
Women have always outnumbered men in later years. Just look around any retirement home. I think they are more attentive to their health and traditionally less likely to be in a hazardous job, take less risks. That is until recently. Time will tell.

Hi, the small town where I live, there is more women than men.
As far as I can tell only two men are stamp collectors (I'm one of them).

I never knew the answer in my town. With 10,000 people in a very large township how could I ever now. So I asked the postmaster. He said he has about 150 people that actively buy every new issue that comes out. Way car more people than I thought. Now he called these people as collectors
I would guess that is a good estimate on his part because when I started buying years ago he asked me if I collected and ever since he makes sure to tell me when a new issue come out or is pending. |
